For the second year running the Mature Market Institute (MMI) has conducted a national survey into the "baby boomer" generation, those born between 1946 and 1964.

Baby boomers can be classified into two groups - this year the oldest boomers will be 63 while the youngest will be 45. Between the two groups are some substantial differences in upbringing both at home and socially, accounting for two different sets of expectations. For example the older group, born in a time of healthy economy and postwar rebuilding of houses and schools, are very likely to have had mothers who stayed at home and parents who stayed together no matter what.

The differences in attitudes and expectations between the two main groups of baby boomers - the post war group and those born between 1955 and 1964 are due to the major social changes that took place in this period.

Now as they approach retirement, the older group are considering their options. The younger group however have the task of taking responsibility for their own financial future.

Both sets of baby boomers have had a vast influence on the nation in every way. The study takes an interesting look at how they compare in terms of their very different outlooks on every aspect of life.
